Clayoquot Island Open House
Last weekend, the good folks of Clayoquot Island Preserve held their annual open house, inviting the public to wander the island’s rainforest boardwalks, pristine beaches, and meticulously landscaped gardens. It was an amazing experience enjoyed by Tofino locals and visitors alike.
Clayoquot Island (aka Stubbs Island) is a key part of Clayoquot Sound history, having been home to one of the first European settlements in the area. Remnants of early buildings remain to this day.
It is also the home of Sharon Whalen, who is responsible for the island’s extensive gardens. Sharon is the woman behind Sea Wench Naturals, a line of local, organic soaps created with natural ingredients cultivated on the island. You’ll find Sea Wench soaps in all Ocean Village rooms (and for sale in our front office!).
A big thank you Sharon and Chris for graciously opening up your home for all to enjoy.
