June is Abloom
Highlights this month include Tofino Jazz Festival, Summer Solstice and a Strawberry Moon. Join for the best that Tofino’s nature and community have to offer!
Moonlight
We love a moonlit Mackenzie Beach! Look to the skies on June 21-22nd to catch the Strawberry Full Moon; said to be named after the berries that ripen around this time of year. According to the Ontario Native Literacy Coalition, the Anishinaabe (Ojibwe) considered the Strawberry Moon (Ode’miin Giizis) a time for annual feasts and welcoming people home. Also referred to as the Egg Laying Moon (Opiniyawiwipisim) by the Cree people, it marks a period when birds and waterfowl start laying eggs. Although known by many names around the world, the June moon signifies a time of health & abundance.
